The Power Division has opened a dedicated control room to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply and strengthen coordination among power utilities during the ongoing flood situation in parts of the country.
According to an office order issued by the Power Division, the control room has been set up on the 14th floor of Bidyut Bhaban in Dhaka and will remain operational every day from 9:00am to 9:00pm. Officials will also remain available over mobile phones beyond the scheduled hours if necessary.
The initiative aims to monitor the overall power situation, maintain close coordination with distribution companies and respond promptly to any disruption in electricity supply caused by flooding.
The Power Division has assigned officials on a roster basis to oversee the control room's operations from July 13 to July 31.
Officials on duty have been instructed to coordinate immediately with the relevant power distribution companies whenever any electricity supply problem is reported and ensure swift resolution. If required, they have also been authorized to inform higher authorities.
The office order further said any official unable to perform their assigned duty must arrange a replacement on their own responsibility and ensure the substitute is fully briefed.
Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) has also established its own control room to maintain round the clock coordination with the Power Division and ensure uninterrupted consumer services during the floods.
The BPDB has nominated focal point officers for its central monitoring cell and the Chattogram distribution zone to maintain continuous communication with the Power Division's control room and oversee field level operations.
The Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB) has similarly designated focal point officials to coordinate emergency response and ensure uninterrupted electricity services in rural areas during the flood situation.
