Dhaka, July 6, 2026 - France has reiterated its commitment to supporting Bangladesh’s transition to a cleaner, more sustainable and resilient energy sector, with both countries expressing interest in expanding cooperation in renewable energy and power infrastructure.

 

French Ambassador to Bangladesh Jean-Marc Séré-Charlet paid a courtesy call on Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Adviser Iqbal Hassan Mahmood at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Monday, where the two sides discussed issues of mutual interest and reviewed ongoing bilateral cooperation in the energy sector.

 

 

During the meeting, they assessed the progress of existing projects and explored opportunities to deepen collaboration in renewable energy development, modernization of power infrastructure and energy efficiency.

 

The French ambassador reaffirmed France’s strong interest in supporting Bangladesh’s energy transition, particularly by accelerating renewable energy development in line with the government’s sustainable development agenda.

 

France has been extending support to Bangladesh through the Agence Française de Développement (AFD), focusing on power grid modernization, renewable energy expansion and improving industrial energy efficiency.

 

Current cooperation includes the development of smart grid infrastructure in Dhaka and the promotion of green financing through local financial institutions.
