HONG KONG, Oct 26, 2026: Bangladesh and Hong Kong have expressed interest in strengthening cooperation in waste management, water and noise pollution control, and climate change mitigation.

The issues were discussed at a bilateral meeting on Monday between Bangladesh’s State Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Sheikh Faridul Islam, and Hong Kong Secretary for Environment and Ecology, Tse Chin-wan, at the SkyCity Marriott Hotel in Hong Kong.

Sheikh Faridul Islam said Hong Kong’s experience and technical expertise could help Bangladesh improve waste collection, segregation, recycling and safe disposal. He also stressed the importance of effective management, regular monitoring and public awareness to control water and noise pollution.

Tse Chin-wan expressed interest in expanding cooperation with Bangladesh on environmental protection and sustainable development. He proposed support for training and institutional capacity-building through Hong Kong’s Belt and Road Sustainable Development Training Centre.

Welcoming the proposal, Sheikh Faridul Islam emphasised that international cooperation, knowledge sharing and skills development are essential to addressing climate change and other environmental challenges.

Bangladesh’s Consul General in Hong Kong, Dr Shah Mohammad Tanvir Monsur, and officials from both sides attended the meeting.
