DHAKA, October 25, 2026 — Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) and the Institute of Architects Bangladesh (IAB) will launch an open architectural competition to develop affordable, climate-resilient housing designs for vulnerable rural communities. Report BSS
The initiative aims to promote safe, environmentally friendly and practical housing solutions suited to Bangladesh’s diverse geographical conditions, including coastal areas, haors, wetlands, chars, floodplains, hilly regions and the Barind tract.
A memorandum of understanding was signed between the two organisations at PKSF Bhaban-1 in Agargaon, Dhaka, on Sunday. PKSF Deputy Managing Director Md Hasan Khaled and IAB General Secretary Architect Dr Masud Ur Rashid signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organisations.
PKSF will select the 10 best designs from the competition for potential practical application in climate-vulnerable areas.
Under its Resilient Homestead and Livelihood Support (RHL) project, funded by the Green Climate Fund (GCF), PKSF has already constructed more than 3,500 climate-resilient houses across seven coastal districts.
Building on this experience, the new initiative is expected to improve rural housing standards and strengthen the adaptive capacity of marginalised communities facing climate risks.
