ALGIERS, Oct 22, 2026 — Bangladesh and Algeria have discussed expanding energy cooperation, including imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG), liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and other petroleum products under a government-to-government (G2G) arrangement.

The issue was discussed at a bilateral meeting between Bangladesh State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir and Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf in Algiers on Thursday.

Referring to a recently signed memorandum of understanding (MoU) on hydrocarbon cooperation, Kobir said the agreement had opened new opportunities for Bangladesh to secure energy supplies from the North African country.

The MoU also provides scope for cooperation in refinery development, LNG infrastructure and the exploration of coal and natural gas fields in Bangladesh, he said.

The Algerian Petroleum Institute has expressed interest in providing training and knowledge-sharing programs for Bangladeshi engineers and technicians to strengthen the country’s energy-sector skills and technical capacity.

Attaf said the Algerian president had directed that the hydrocarbon MoU be signed on a priority basis in response to Bangladesh’s energy needs.

The two sides also discussed cooperation in fertilizer supplies, agriculture, trade, investment, textiles, pharmaceuticals and leather. Algeria expressed willingness to help meet Bangladesh’s fertilizer requirements, while Attaf sought Bangladesh’s experience in reviving Algeria’s textile industry.

Both countries stressed the importance of regular Foreign Office Consultations, with the next round expected to take place in Dhaka soon. They also highlighted the need for high-level visits to strengthen bilateral relations.
