25th October 2026

DHAKA, October 25, 2026 — The government has recommended approval to procure six liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargoes from BP Singapore Pte Limited and Qatar Energy Trading LLC to meet domestic gas demand. Report BSS

The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP), chaired by Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, recommended approval of two proposals at its 51st meeting of 2026, held virtually on Saturday.

Under the first proposal, Bangladesh will purchase five LNG cargoes from BP Singapore through direct procurement at a price of JKM minus $0.17 per million British thermal units (MMBtu). The proposal also allows additional purchases if required, subject to mutual agreement.

The second proposal covers one additional cargo from Qatar Energy Trading under the existing government-to-government long-term contract. Scheduled for delivery on December 20, 2026, the cargo would be purchased at JKM minus $0.10 per MMBtu, under a pricing arrangement different from the existing contract terms.

Both proposals were submitted by the Energy and Mineral Resources Division.

The committee’s recommendation is a step towards approval of the purchases; it does not by itself confirm that the cargoes have been delivered.
