Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev met Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on October 23 to review construction progress on the country’s first nuclear power plant and discuss wider cooperation in advanced technologies.
The talks focused on the integrated nuclear power project in the Jizzakh Region. Likhachev briefed the president on construction milestones and upcoming activities after visiting the project site a day earlier.
The foundation slab for the Unit 1 reactor compartment is expected to be completed by the end of 2026, marking a key milestone in construction.
The two sides also discussed a residential town under development near the plant to accommodate more than 30,000 people, with housing, schools and healthcare facilities. An industrial cluster planned about 25 kilometers from the site is expected to support regional economic development.
Further cooperation in nuclear medicine, additive manufacturing and training for Uzbek engineers and scientists was also discussed.
The planned nuclear complex will comprise two large-capacity units equipped with VVER-1000 reactors and two small modular reactor units using RITM-200N technology, each with a capacity of 55 megawatts.
