8th July 2026

DHAKA, July 8, 2026 (PR) – Bangladesh and Germany have taken a significant step towards strengthening cooperation in renewable energy and technical education with the signing of an implementation agreement to develop a skilled workforce for the country’s growing sustainable energy sector.

The Technical and Madrasah Education Division (TMED) under the Ministry of Education and GIZ Bangladesh, acting on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), signed the agreement to formally launch the Vocational Training in the Field of Renewable Energy (TVET4RE) project.

The signing ceremony was held in Dhaka in the presence of senior government officials, representatives of the German government and development partners. The agreement follows the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Economic Relations Division (ERD) and GIZ on June 11, 2026, paving the way for the project’s implementation.

The initiative forms part of Germany’s broader development cooperation with Bangladesh, following Berlin’s commitment of €21.77 million in January 2026 to support sustainable development programs in the country.

Speaking at the ceremony, Md. Daud Miah, ndc, Secretary of the Technical and Madrasah Education Division, said the agreement reflects the long-standing partnership between Bangladesh and Germany in promoting technical and vocational education, sustainable economic development and institutional capacity building.

He said Germany has remained a trusted development partner for Bangladesh over the years, particularly in strengthening the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sector and creating better employment opportunities for young people.

The TVET4RE project aims to equip students and technical professionals with the skills required to meet the growing demand for qualified workers in Bangladesh’s expanding renewable energy industry. The program is expected to translate national renewable energy policies into practical workforce development while supporting the country’s transition to a green economy.

Officials said the project is fully aligned with the Bangladesh TVET Implementation Plan 2025–2030, ensuring that renewable energy skills development becomes an integral part of the country’s technical education system.

During the event, GIZ representatives highlighted the organization’s broader development portfolio in Bangladesh, noting that the TVET4RE project and the Professional Education in Industrial and Environmental Safety (PRECISE) program will jointly contribute to developing green skills, improving industrial and environmental safety standards, and enhancing the country’s economic competitiveness.

Among those present at the ceremony were Abul Khayer Md. Akkas Ali, Director General of the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE); Shamshur Rahman Khan, Additional Secretary (Development) of TMED; Engr. Md. Ruhul Amin, Chairman of the Bangladesh Technical Education Board (BTEB); and Jannis Hussain, Deputy Head of Cooperation and First Secretary at the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Bangladesh.

The program concluded with an interactive discussion involving officials from TMED, DTE, BTEB and GIZ, focusing on implementation strategies and strengthening collaboration to develop a skilled workforce capable of supporting Bangladesh’s renewable energy transition.
