JERA Meghnaghat Power Limited (JMPL) hereby reports that on 13 May 2026, at approximately 12:30 PM local time, a fire incident occurred at the Officers’ Canteen in the dormitory building of JMPL. Press Release
A total of 12 individuals were affected by the incident, including four personnel from a third-party service provider working in the kitchen area and eight JMPL personnel who were present in the canteen at the time.
JMPL immediately activated its emergency response protocol, and all affected individuals were transported using the in-house ambulance and plant vehicles to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka, where they are currently receiving medical treatment. JMPL’s utmost priority remains supporting those affected by the incident. JMPL is working with the authorities to extend its full assistance to ensure the best possible care to the affected individuals and their families.
As the incident occurred in a separate area from the main power plant building, there has been no impact on plant operations. The plant continues to operate in accordance with instructions from National Load Dispatch Center (NLDC) and Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB).
An official investigation is currently ongoing, and JMPL is actively cooperating with the relevant authorities and agencies. Preliminary reports by the authorities suggest that the incident may have been caused by an LPG gas leakage from a stove.
JMPL expresses its sincere appreciation for the prompt visit to the hospital and support extended by the Minister of Health and Family Welfare Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Anindya Islam Amit, and Chairman of the BPDB Md. Rezaul Karim during this difficult time.
