DHAKA, May 6, 2026 — Prime Minister’s Adviser Mahdi Amin has said that Bangladesh’s energy sector remains comparatively stable and resilient, with fuel prices under control and supply aligned with demand despite ongoing global challenges.

“We are in a much better position in the energy sector compared to many other countries. Fuel prices are relatively controlled, and we have been able to maintain a stable supply,” he said on Wednesday.

He made the remarks while addressing a seminar titled “Cooperation on Markets, Policy, Alignment, Security, and Sovereignty,” organized by the Institute of Strategy and Tactics Research at a hotel in the capital.

Mahdi Amin noted that Bangladesh has managed to navigate global uncertainties by turning challenges into opportunities, expressing confidence in the country’s continued progress. He said the government has addressed initial energy-related pressures through consultations with both domestic and international stakeholders, negotiations, and by exploring alternative sourcing options.

Highlighting broader governance priorities, he said public welfare remains central to policymaking.

“As an elected government, we are accountable to the people. Our goal is to uphold independence, sovereignty, and public interest while building a transparent and accountable state,” he added.

He also emphasized that the government, under the leadership of Tarique Rahman, is working to ensure economic prosperity and self-reliance. According to him, implementation of election commitments has already begun shortly after the polls.

Mahdi further mentioned that discussions at the ongoing Deputy Commissioners’ (DC) Conference are focused on strengthening policy implementation at the field level.

He also pointed to what he described as a vibrant parliamentary environment, where both treasury and opposition members actively engage in debate and constructive criticism.

“This coexistence and mutual respect among political parties will help shape the future of Bangladesh,” he said, underlining the importance of democracy, human rights, rule of law, and freedom of expression.

He added that the country’s law and order situation remains stable, contributing to overall economic and energy sector confidence.
