Australia has unveiled plans to add 7.8 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy generation capacity and 7.9 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of battery storage to its national electricity grid by 2030 under a major clean energy expansion program.

The initiative, comprising 19 new renewable energy projects under Round 7 of the Capacity Investment Scheme (CIS), is expected to attract around US$17 billion in private investment and create approximately 19,000 construction jobs. The projects will deliver enough electricity to power about four million Australian homes.

The new developments—including wind farms, solar power plants and hybrid battery storage facilities—will be located across New South Wales, Queensland, Tasmania, Victoria and South Australia, supplying electricity to the National Electricity Market (NEM).

Heavy lifting and engineered transport specialist Sarens said it is well positioned to support Australia’s expanding renewable energy program, drawing on its extensive experience in large-scale infrastructure and clean energy projects.

The company previously played a key role in the Sapphire Wind Farm in New South Wales, where it installed what were then Australia’s tallest wind turbine towers using its specialized lifting equipment under challenging site conditions.

Sarens is also promoting more sustainable construction practices by developing hybrid power solutions aimed at reducing fuel consumption and emissions at construction sites while maintaining operational efficiency.

Commenting on the country’s clean energy ambitions, Willem Jobse, Regional Director of Sarens Oceania, said Australia’s renewable energy roadmap will require not only significant investment but also specialized engineering expertise to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and on schedule.

Sarens has supported several major renewable energy projects worldwide, including the Saint-Brieuc offshore wind farm in France, the Rattlesnake Ridge Wind Farm in Canada and wind turbine logistics projects in Mexico, reinforcing its position as a global partner in the development of renewable energy infrastructure.
