RAJSHAHI, June 5, 2026 – Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) today observed World Environment Day 2026 through a discussion meeting and tree plantation program aimed at promoting environmental protection and biodiversity conservation. Report BSS
The program was jointly organized by RUET, the Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Forum, Bangladesh Bird Conservation Forum (BBCF), Bangladesh Environmental Lawyers Association (BELA) and Mission Green Bangladesh.
Acting Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Abdul Kader Jilani attended the discussion as the chief guest, while noted zoologist and biodiversity expert Professor Dr. Bidhan Chandra Das presented the keynote address.
Speakers emphasized the need for collective efforts to conserve biodiversity, address climate change impacts and ensure sustainable development. They also called upon young people to play a greater role in protecting the environment.
Teachers, students, environmentalists and members of various conservation organizations participated in the programme.
Following the discussion, participants planted saplings of different species on the RUET campus, reaffirming their commitment to building a greener and more sustainable Bangladesh.
