“Films can play a highly effective role in creating awareness about climate change and environmental conservation,” he said while addressing the closing session of the daylong Global Trend and Climate Change Film Festival (GTCF) 2026 at the National Library auditorium in Agargaon, Dhaka, marking World Environment Day.
The minister said the government prioritizes films carrying messages of social transformation under its grant programme and assured that projects focusing on environmental and climate issues would receive serious consideration from the ministry.
He praised the organizers, including GTD Media Production, for selecting the timely and critical issue of climate change as the festival’s central theme and for utilizing film as an effective tool for public awareness.
Swapon stressed the importance of making the festival an annual event and urged filmmakers to produce high-quality content capable of reaching broader audiences beyond digital platforms.
“These short films and documentaries can play an important role in motivating people who remain unaware of the harmful impacts of environmental degradation and climate change,” he said.
The minister also assured all possible support from the ministry and encouraged young filmmakers to continue their efforts with confidence, noting that although their work may be limited in scale, its impact can be global.
Speakers and experts attending the festival highlighted the importance of films, storytelling and creative dialogue in promoting climate awareness and advancing a sustainable future.
