DHAKA, June 4, 2026: The Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to Bangladesh, Abdullah Ali Al-Hamoudi, has assured Bangladesh of comprehensive cooperation in the development and expansion of its power and energy sector.
The assurance came during a meeting with State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Aninda Islam Amit at the ministry on Thursday.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed a range of issues of mutual interest, including energy security, LNG trade, renewable energy, grid modernization, and future investment opportunities.
The State Minister noted that the UAE has long been one of Bangladesh’s most reliable sources of crude oil and petroleum products. He reiterated the government’s commitment to the “Bangladesh First” policy framework aimed at strengthening energy security and reducing vulnerability to global fuel market volatility.
Amit also highlighted Bangladesh’s priorities in expanding LNG trade, minimizing dependence on the volatile spot market, modernizing the national power and energy grid, reducing carbon emissions, developing automated substations, and establishing energy bunkering facilities near ports.
Referring to the UAE’s progress in developing green hydrogen hubs, the State Minister expressed Bangladesh’s interest in transforming fertilizer plants and heavy steel industries from natural gas-based operations to green hydrogen and green ammonia. He sought UAE investment and technical collaboration to support this transition.
Ambassador Al-Hamoudi reaffirmed his country’s strong interest in supporting Bangladesh’s energy sector and pledged cooperation in areas of mutual benefit. He also expressed his commitment to elevating the longstanding partnership between the two countries to a new level.
Energy Secretary Mohammad Saiful Islam, Power Secretary Mirana Mahrukh, and officials from the UAE Embassy, including Altaf Hossain, were also present at the meeting.
