DHAKA, October 23, 2026: Mukti Mazumder Babu, chairman of the Nature and Life Foundation, has taken charge as chairman of the National Committee of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

The Nature and Life Foundation announced his appointment on Friday, expressing optimism that his extensive experience in biodiversity conservation and climate change issues would strengthen Bangladesh’s environmental initiatives at the international level.

The foundation expects his leadership to help expand efforts to protect the country’s natural heritage, conserve biodiversity and address climate change.

Founded on October 5, 1948, IUCN is a global conservation network bringing together governments and civil society organisations. It publishes the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, a key scientific resource for assessing the extinction risks facing plants and animals worldwide.

The organisation also works to protect wildlife habitats and ecosystems, support scientific research on climate change, and advise governments on sustainable environmental policies and legislation.

The foundation expressed hope that Babu’s leadership would raise the international profile of Bangladesh’s nature and biodiversity conservation efforts.
