DHAKA, October 30, 2026 (PR) - The Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (RNPP) has taken a significant step forward in the commissioning of Unit 1, with the start of Power Start-Up Stage C following regulatory approval.

On October 29, the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Regulatory Authority (BAERA) Chairman approved the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC) and the Nuclear Power Plant Company Bangladesh Limited (NPCBL) to proceed with Stage C activities.

Stage C is a key phase of the unit’s commissioning process, involving a gradual increase in reactor power to test and verify the performance and integrated operation of major plant systems. These include the reactor, primary and secondary systems, turbine-generator, electrical systems, instrumentation and control, reactor protection and safety systems.

As reactor power is raised in stages, prescribed tests and assessments will be conducted at each level. Particular attention will be given to the performance of the turbine control and protection systems, generator and associated electrical equipment.

A major objective of Stage C is to synchronize the Unit 1 generator with the national grid after successful completion of the required tests. The unit will then move towards stable electricity generation, subject to fulfilment of regulatory and commissioning requirements and receipt of the necessary approvals.

The start of Stage C marks an important advancement in the commissioning of Bangladesh’s first nuclear power plant. Nuclear safety remains the highest priority throughout the process.
