Russia and Indonesia have held high-level talks in Jakarta to strengthen cooperation on developing the regulatory framework for Indonesia's nuclear energy programme, including Floating Nuclear Power Units (FNPUs).
The meetings brought together Alexey Ferapontov, Deputy Head of Russia's nuclear regulator Rostekhnadzor, representatives of Rosatom, officials from Indonesia's Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency (BAPETEN), and the Ministry of Transport.
Discussions focused on establishing safety regulations for floating nuclear power units, using Russia's licensing and oversight experience while considering Indonesia's island geography and international nuclear safety standards.
Alexey Ferapontov highlighted Russia's extensive experience in regulating nuclear facilities throughout their lifecycle, stressing that safety must remain the top priority.
BAPETEN Acting Chairman Zainal Arifin said Indonesia is committed to building a reliable and effective nuclear regulatory system and looks forward to deeper cooperation with Rostekhnadzor and greater exchange of international regulatory experience.
On the other hand, Anna Belokoneva, Head of Rosatom's Office in Indonesia, said Rosatom is ready to share Russia's expertise to support Indonesia's regulatory and institutional preparations for nuclear projects.
