DHAKA, July 16, 2026 (PR): The government is set to launch a Tree Monitoring App to strengthen monitoring and data management under its ambitious programme to plant 250 million trees over the next five years, officials said at the second meeting of the Support Taskforce for the initiative on Thursday.
The meeting, held at the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, was chaired by State Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Sheikh Faridul Islam, MP.
The taskforce reviewed the progress of the nationwide plantation programme, which is being implemented in line with the government’s election commitment to enhance forest cover, protect biodiversity and address the impacts of climate change.
Officials discussed implementation progress submitted by focal point representatives from various ministries and emphasized the need for stronger inter-agency coordination to ensure the programme’s success.
The meeting was informed that the Tree Monitoring App will be launched soon to enable digital tracking, data-based monitoring and effective management of planted saplings, ensuring greater transparency and accountability throughout the programme.
Prime Minister’s Special Assistant on Environment, Forest and Climate Change (Secretary rank) and Technical Expert Dr. Md. Saimum Parvez, Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka Central University Professor Dr. Md. Nurul Islam, and Technical Expert Jamail Bashir JB attended the meeting.
Also present were Additional Secretary (Administration) Shamima Begum, Joint Secretary Shahanara Yasmin Lili, senior officials of the ministry, and focal point representatives from different ministries.
Participants reaffirmed their commitment to working in a coordinated manner to ensure the successful implementation of the 250 million tree plantation programme, which is one of the government’s flagship environmental and climate initiatives.
