DHAKA, June 6, 2026 – Owners of CNG filling stations have demanded an increase in their sales commission, claiming that rising operational costs have made the business financially unsustainable.

At a press conference held at the CNG Filling Station and Conversion Workshop Owners Association office in the capital on Saturday, association leaders called for raising the commission from the current Tk 8 per cubic meter to Tk 13.96 per cubic meter.

Presenting a written statement, Association Secretary General Farhan Noor said station owners have been operating under mounting losses due to increased electricity costs, currency depreciation and other expenses.

“If our legitimate demands are not met, we will have no option but to launch a tougher movement from July 1,” he said, adding that inadequate gas pressure has also increased electricity consumption and operating costs.

The association alleged that despite repeated assurances from successive governments and years of discussions since 2013, their demand for a commission adjustment has not been adequately addressed. According to the owners, electricity tariffs have increased several times over the years, but their commission rate has remained largely unchanged.

They argued that an immediate increase of Tk 5.96 per cubic meter is necessary to offset higher electricity and operational expenses and ensure the viability of the sector.

Association leaders also complained of regulatory burdens and alleged harassment in obtaining licences and approvals from various agencies, including the Fire Service, Department of Environment and Labour Department.

They urged the government and the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) to review their demand and resolve the issue through dialogue, while warning that they are prepared to take stronger action if their concerns remain unaddressed.

Association President Manoranjan Bhakta, former President Masud Khan and other leaders also spoke at the press conference.
