Dhaka, 2 June 2026: After experiencing unprecedented price hikes over the past two months, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) prices have been reduced slightly for June, with the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) announcing a Tk 55 reduction in the price of a 12-kg cylinder.
Under the new pricing structure, the retail price of a 12-kg LPG cylinder has been reduced from Tk 1,940 to Tk 1,885. The price of autogas, widely used as fuel for vehicles, has also been lowered from Tk 89.50 to Tk 86.93 per liter.
BERC announced that the revised prices would take effect from 6:00 PM on Tuesday, 2 June 2026.
The modest reduction comes after two consecutive and substantial price hikes earlier this year.
On 19 April, BERC increased the price of a 12-kg LPG cylinder by Tk 212, raising it to Tk 1,940. Just seventeen days earlier, on 2 April, the regulator had raised the price by another Tk 387, taking it from Tk 1,340 to Tk 1,727.
As a result, LPG prices increased by a combined Tk 599 per 12-kg cylinder within a span of less than three weeks, placing significant financial pressure on households and small businesses dependent on LPG.
Despite monthly price announcements by BERC, concerns remain over the effectiveness of the regulatory framework in controlling actual market prices.
Industry observers note that for the past seven months, officially declared LPG prices have often failed to reflect prevailing retail market rates. In many parts of the country, retailers have reportedly sold cylinders at prices significantly above the regulator’s approved rates.
For example, although the official price of a 12-kg cylinder in March was fixed at Tk 1,341, reports indicated that consumers were paying between Tk 1,800 and Tk 2,000 in several markets due to supply shortages and weak enforcement.
