Dhaka, June 1, 2026 — The government has reappointed Engineer Md. Rezaul Karim as Chairman of the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) on a contractual basis for another year. 

A notification to this effect was issued on Monday by the Contract and Foreign Recruitment Wing of the Ministry of Public Administration.

 

According to the notification, the appointment has been made under Section 49 of the Government Service Act, 2018. His post-retirement leave (PRL) and related benefits will remain suspended during the one-year contractual tenure, effective from the date of joining.

 

Rezaul Karim is currently serving as the Chairman of BPDB. He assumed the role as the organization’s 39th chairman on September 1, 2024.

 

Before taking charge as chairman, he served as a Member (Distribution) of BPDB and held several key positions within the country’s power sector.

 

Born in Bogura on June 7, 1967, Rezaul Karim graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) in 1989.

 

He began his professional career on August 17, 1991, as an Assistant Engineer at the Khulna Power Station under BPDB.

 

Over the years, he served in various capacities, including Sub-Divisional Engineer, Executive Engineer and Manager (Superintending Engineer). In April 2018, he was appointed Deputy Project Director of the Maitree Super Thermal Power Project.

 

He was promoted to Additional Chief Engineer on February 17, 2022. Later, from January 3, 2023, to March 31, 2024, he served as Chief Engineer of BPDB’s Distribution South Zone in Chattogram.

 

The latest appointment ensures continuity in the leadership of the country’s largest power generation and distribution agency at a time when the energy sector is undergoing significant reforms and expansion initiatives.
