The eleventh round of interagency consultations between the Russian delegation, led by Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev, and the IAEA delegation headed by Director General Rafael Grossi, was held in Kaliningrad, Russia.
Alexander Trembitskiy, Head of Rostechnadzor, represented the Russian side, along with Alexey Rtischev, Chief of Radiation, Chemical, and Biological Protection Troops of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, as well as officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia and the Federal National Guard Troops Service.
Building on the key discussions held in September between President Vladimir Putin and Rafael Grossi during World Atomic Week, the meeting focused on nuclear safety and security measures at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP). It may be mentioned here that the nuclear power plant in Ukraine is now under Russian control.
Alexey Likhachev briefed the IAEA Director General on the current condition of the ZNPP and outlined the steps taken by Rosatom and other Russian agencies to ensure the plant’s safe operation amid the challenging circumstances.
Both sides discussed the restoration of the external power supply to the ZNPP following the repair of two high-voltage transmission lines. Rosatom Director General expressed gratitude to Rafael Grossi and IAEA experts for their efforts in securing a ceasefire from the Kiev regime to facilitate the repair work. Rotations of IAEA personnel and joint activities with Rostechnadzor at the ZNPP site were also part of the agenda.
