The government-imported liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) is all set to hit the domestic market in October, helping keep the domestic cooking-fuel market stable.
"We have taken steps to provide the state-imported LPG to the private sector in October on a pilot basis," Energy and Mineral Resources Division (EMRD) Secretary Saiful Islam informed media.
He further said the domestic market would get state-imported LPG in full swing from early next year.
The state-run Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) has moved to import LPG from global sources on government-to-government (G2G) basis following the nod from the EMRD under the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources (MPEMR).
The government will only import LPG and supply it to the private sector for smooth marketing and supply of the cooking fuel, said sources. It will not get involved in storage, bottling, or distribution of LPG, they said.
