Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has directed the relevant authorities to take immediate steps to remove the obstacles hindering the growth of Bangladesh’s ready-made garment (RMG) industry, reaffirming the government’s commitment to strengthening the country’s largest export sector.

The directive came during a meeting with a delegation of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) at the Prime Minister’s Cabinet Division office in the Bangladesh Secretariat recently, according to Deputy Press Secretary Hasan Shipul.

The BGMEA delegation, led by its President Mahmud Hasan Khan, briefed the Prime Minister on the industry’s key challenges, particularly the need for an uninterrupted supply of electricity and natural gas.

The business leaders also presented a set of short- and long-term recommendations aimed at improving the sector’s competitiveness and sustaining its growth.
