DHAKA, Jan 25, 2018 (BSS) - Science and Technology Minister Architect Yeafesh Osman today said people concerned should initiate joint efforts between scientific research and industrial institutions for accelerating country's development.

"Joint efforts by scientific research and industrial institutions can ensure quality of products which will ultimately minimize the cost of products," he said.

The minister was addressing the inaugural ceremony of a three-day science fair titled "Science and Industrial Technology Fair" as the chief guest.

Bangladesh Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (BCSIR) organized the event on its Dhanmondi campus.

The main thrust of the fair is to encourage the young scientists for flourishing their innovative talents and building a science-minded nation.

Science and Technology Ministry Secretary Md Anwar Hossain, Former Vice- Chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Prof Dr Pran Gopal Datta addressed the function as special guests with BCSIR Chairman Md Faruque Ahmed in the chair.

The minister viewed that there is no way but to wide-ranging promotion of the science and technology sector to take the nation forward successfully.

Other speakers, in the event, said science education should be expanded to the doorsteps of both rural and urban students as there is no alternative to acquire scientific knowledge to make the country technologically advanced.

They also called the authorities concerned to take appropriate measures to make students as well as science-loving people more technology friendly in order to build a Digital Bangladesh dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The educational institutions should take the time-befitting steps for enriching students' scientific knowledge which is crucial for the development of the nation.

A total of 552 students from 74 institutions across the country are participating in the fair and displaying their projects.

Participants, divided into four age groups, will compete for the best award in the fair. The juvenile scientists are displaying their optimum projects that include wireless power transmission, automatic railway crossing, drip irrigation system, life security robot and power saving street light.

Besides, research and development activities of the BCSIR and products of local industrial entrepreneurs, emerged with BCSIR invented process, are being displayed in the fair.

The fair will remain open for all from 10 am to 7 pm every day.
