Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, Bir Bikram, on Thursday invited US companies to explore oil and gas fields in Bangladesh’s coastal areas and the Bay of Bengal to help address the country’s energy crisis.

He made the invitation while addressing the 30th US Trade Show organized by the American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh (AmCham) at Hotel InterContinental in the city as the chief guest, according to a press release from Parliament Secretariat.

The Speaker said the United States is Bangladesh’s single largest export destination.

“Economic relations between Bangladesh and the United States are highly positive. Alongside diplomatic ties, the important economic strategic relationship between the two countries has evolved over time,” he said.

Hafiz Uddin said the 30th US Trade Show strongly represents the bilateral trade and commercial relations between Bangladesh and the United States.

AmCham’s three decades of journey in Bangladesh had facilitated trade and investment in the country, he said.

The exhibition showcases innovative ideas in different sectors, including health technology, power and energy, ICT and the digital economy, banking and financial services, manufacturing, education and agribusiness, he added.

Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Abdul Awal Mintoo addressed the program as the special guest, while US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T Christensen spoke as the guest of honor.

AmCham President Syed Kamal Hossain delivered the welcome speech.

The three-day exhibition, aimed at strengthening trade and commercial relations between Bangladesh and the United States, is being held at Hotel InterContinental November 5 to 7.

Representatives from the United States, officials of different embassies, AmCham’s vice-chairman and executive members, guests and journalists attended the program.
