Dhaka, October 4, 2026: Algeria, Tunisia, Italy, Austria and Germany have signed a ministerial declaration reaffirming their commitment to developing the South Hydrogen Corridor, a major cross-Mediterranean green hydrogen project.
The Algiers Ministerial Declaration was signed at the second ministerial meeting of the five partner countries in Algiers on October 1, according to the Algerian Embassy in Dhaka.
The declaration provides for establishing a dedicated secretariat, with technical support from the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), to facilitate the project’s development.
The SoutH2 Corridor aims to transport around 4 million tonnes of green hydrogen annually from Algeria to Italy, Austria and Germany through a pipeline network spanning about 3,000 kilometers. The planned volume could meet roughly 10% of Europe’s projected clean hydrogen demand by 2040.
The five countries also agreed to strengthen political coordination and maintain regular dialogue to support the project’s development and establish a stronger Euro-Mediterranean green energy partnership.
