The 4th International Fishing Tournament, organized by Rosatom State Corporation, was held on September 28–29, 2026, at Lake Udomlya near the Kalinin Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) in Russia’s Tver Region, bringing together participants from 11 countries, including Bangladesh.

The event featured 22 amateur anglers and 28 journalists and experts from Bangladesh, Belarus, Hungary, Vietnam, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Turkey, Uzbekistan and South Africa. The participating countries are implementing or planning nuclear energy projects in cooperation with Rosatom.

As part of the event, representatives of the Kalinin NPP’s Environmental Protection and Radiation Monitoring Service conducted dosimetric monitoring of the fish caught during the competition. The monitoring confirmed the safety of the catch.

The Malaysian team won the “Biggest Fish” category with a 1.7-kg pike-perch, while Hungary received the “Will to Win” award. The Russian team won the “Biggest Catch” category by catching the largest number of fish species native to Lake Udomlya.

Participants also visited the Kalinin NPP, where they toured the turbine halls and control rooms of Units 3 and 4, inspected the cooling towers and interacted with plant engineers. The program included visits to Moscow’s Atom Museum at VDNKh, historical sites near the plant and the Udomlya Regional Museum.

“The International Fishing Tournament has become one of Rosatom’s flagship educational events, demonstrating the environmental aspects of nuclear energy and promoting open dialogue with communities in countries developing nuclear power,” said Alexandra Justus, Deputy Director General for Communications at Rosatom International Network.

The Kalinin Nuclear Power Plant is located on the southern shore of Lake Udomlya.  With installed capacity of 4,000 MW. The NPP undertakes regular environmental protection measures, including the conservation of aquatic resources. In 2025, it conducted four fish-stocking programs, bringing the fish stock in Lakes Pesvo and Udomlya to approximately 740 tonnes.

The annual tournament provides international media representatives and experts with an opportunity to learn about nuclear power plant operations, environmental monitoring and regional development.
