Science and Technology Minister Fakir Mahbub Anam held a bilateral meeting with Andrey Rozhdestvin, director general of Rosatom Energy Projects Joint-Stock Company, to review progress on the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant and discuss measures to bring its electricity to the national grid quickly. 

The meeting was held in Washington, DC, on August 26. Discussions covered the overall progress of the Rooppur project, completion of remaining work, technical coordination and necessary steps for supplying generated power to the national grid following the required procedures.

 

The minister said Rooppur would play an important role in meeting Bangladesh’s growing electricity demand, strengthening energy security and supporting long-term sustainable development. He stressed closer coordination among all stakeholders to complete the remaining work efficiently and on time.

 

Rozhdestvin briefed the minister on the project’s progress and expressed Rosatom’s willingness to work closely with Bangladesh to advance the project according to the planned schedule.

 

The two sides also discussed strengthening cooperation in the peaceful use of nuclear energy, power generation, technology transfer, skilled manpower development and the broader energy sector.
