Bangladesh and the United States have discussed expanding cooperation in peaceful nuclear technology, Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) and energy security during a bilateral meeting between Science and Technology Minister Fakir Mahbub Anam and US Energy Secretary Chris Wright.
The meeting focused on the potential for technology and knowledge exchange, energy-sector cooperation and strengthening mutual understanding between the two countries.
Mahbub Anam said advanced and safe nuclear technology could play an important role in meeting Bangladesh’s growing energy demand, ensuring energy security and supporting sustainable development. He said Bangladesh is giving serious consideration to the potential of SMR technology.
The minister reaffirmed Bangladesh’s commitment to the peaceful, safe, secure and responsible use of nuclear technology, stressing the need to strengthen cooperation with technologically advanced countries, including the US.
Wright expressed a positive view of expanding cooperation with Bangladesh in the energy and nuclear sectors. He highlighted the US priority on developing and deploying next-generation nuclear technologies, particularly SMRs.
Both sides expressed interest in deepening bilateral cooperation through technology and knowledge sharing and exploring opportunities for joint work in nuclear science, technology and energy.
