DHAKA, July 22 - Bangladesh and Russia have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, with a particular focus on expanding cooperation in the energy sector and other areas of mutual interest. Report BSS

 

The commitment was made during a bilateral meeting between Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on the sidelines of an international event in Manila, the Philippines, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

 

Dr. Khalilur Rahman led the Bangladesh delegation, accompanied by Prime Minister’s Adviser on Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir, while Sergey Lavrov headed the Russian delegation.

 

During the meeting, the two foreign ministers reviewed the existing Bangladesh-Russia partnership, placing special emphasis on enhancing collaboration in the energy sector. They also exchanged views on expanding cooperation in other areas of shared interest to further deepen bilateral ties.

 

Lavrov congratulated Dr. Khalilur Rahman on his election as President of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

 

The Russian foreign minister also welcomed the formation of the Bangladesh-Russia Parliamentary Friendship Group, describing it as an important initiative to institutionalize legislative cooperation and strengthen parliamentary engagement between the two countries.

 

Both sides agreed to maintain regular dialogue and close engagement to further enhance bilateral cooperation and advance the longstanding partnership between Bangladesh and Russia.
