The government has issued directives to gas distribution and marketing companies to make gas supply services more efficient, transparent, and customer-friendly.
The instructions were announced in a circular signed by Deputy Secretary Muhammad Nazmul Haque of the Energy and Mineral Resources Division.
According to the circular, the initiative has been taken to address growing gas demand in the country, tackle potential challenges, and align services with international best practices.
Under the new guidelines, companies will be allowed to rearrange or replace equipment—without altering the approved hourly gas load—through enlisted contractors. In such cases, no separate approval from the gas distribution company will be required.
The circular also allows the transfer of unused gas load between industrial units located within the same premises and under the same ownership, subject to approval from the managing director or regional head of the respective gas distribution company.
Additionally, effective gas load from captive power units within the same premises may be reallocated to industrial use based on necessity. However, transferring gas load from industrial use back to captive power will not be permitted under any circumstances.
To improve service delivery, gas distribution and marketing companies have been instructed to complete meter installation within a maximum of seven days and ensure proper quality verification afterward.
