ANDRITZ will supply key equipment for Torrent Power’s 3,000 MW Saidongar-1 Karjat project in Maharashtra, set to become India’s largest pumped storage plant.

The company will provide ten reversible pump turbines, motor-generators and electromechanical systems, with the order valued in the low three-digit million euro range.

Pumped storage plants work like large batteries—storing excess electricity by pumping water uphill and releasing it to generate power during peak demand—making them crucial for balancing renewable energy.

The project is expected to generate 6,241 GWh annually and cut 4.55 million tonnes of carbon emissions.

The contract strengthens ANDRITZ’s presence in India’s hydropower sector and supports the country’s push for reliable, round-the-clock clean energy.
