A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on 4 December 2025 between Bangladesh Oil, Gas and Mineral Corporation (Petrobangla) and the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) to enhance collaboration in education, research, and training. The signing ceremony took place at the Petrobangla Board Room.
The event was attended by BUET Vice-Chancellor Professor Abu Borhan Mohammad Badruzzaman and Petrobangla Chairman Mr. Md. Rezanur Rahman. The MoU was signed by Mr. Md. Amzad Hossain, Secretary (Senior General Manager) of Petrobangla, and Professor Dr. Mohammad Shariful Islam, Director of BUET’s Research and Innovation Centre for Science and Engineering (RISE). Senior officials from both institutions were also present.
BUET, a globally recognized engineering university, has a strong track record of producing highly skilled graduates serving in influential positions worldwide. The partnership is expected to accelerate research and innovation by strengthening information exchange between Petrobangla and BUET’s faculty and students. The collaboration aims to support future industry needs through shared expertise, technology transfer, and joint academic–industrial initiatives.
Under the agreement, both institutions will work together on professional skill development, joint research programs, and knowledge-sharing activities such as seminars, workshops, and meetings. BUET researchers will gain access to industry laboratories, software tools, drilling sites, seismic survey operations, process plants, and coal or hard-rock mines—creating opportunities to apply academic research in real-world settings. At the same time, practical industry exposure will contribute to improving and updating BUET’s academic curriculum.
For research purposes, BUET will have access to all relevant Petrobangla data, except confidential information tied to national security. The MoU will remain valid for five years, with an option for automatic renewal for an additional five-year term.
Industry–academia partnerships are increasingly crucial worldwide. This MoU represents a mutually beneficial collaboration aimed at advancing knowledge, technology, and professional capacity. The agreement marks a significant step toward strengthening long-term cooperation between Petrobangla and BUET.
