The World Bank Group and Japan have launched their first joint investment under the Dynamic Response for Invigorating Value Chains and Energy Security (DRIVE) framework to strengthen energy security, improve supply-chain resilience and attract private investment across Asia.
The initiative complements Japan’s $10 billion Partnership on Wide Energy and Resources Resilience Asia (POWERR Asia), launched in June 2026 to help countries withstand energy and supply-chain disruptions.
The first DRIVE project involves investment in the Emerging Asia Infrastructure Credit Fund, which aims to raise $750 million to finance cleaner energy, energy efficiency and industrial transformation projects across Southeast and South Asia.
The International Finance Corporation (IFC), the World Bank Group’s private-sector arm, is investing up to $50 million in the fund alongside the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
