Bangladesh’s emerging energy roadmap provides a direction for strengthening energy security, but its success will depend on effective implementation, predictable policies and investment-ready projects, the International Chamber of Commerce-Bangladesh (ICCB) has said.

“The roadmap has set the direction. The task now is implementation,” ICCB said in the editorial of its July–September 2026 News Bulletin, released recently.

It stressed that reliable energy supplies are essential not only to prevent shortages but also to boost industrial competitiveness, attract investment and sustain economic growth.

Bangladesh’s installed power generation capacity stood at 32,688 megawatts (MW) as of September 15, 2026, including captive and renewable power, while its highest recorded generation was 17,201 MW on May 20.

The ICCB said the gap highlights that energy security depends on reliable fuel supplies, efficient transmission and distribution, and financial sustainability—not installed capacity alone.

The ICCB welcomed renewed efforts to develop domestic gas resources, noting that 31 wells under a program to drill and rework 150 wells had reportedly yielded an estimated additional 286 million cubic feet per day of gas by mid-September.

It also called for diversified energy imports and said planned LNG infrastructure should complement, rather than replace, domestic gas development and renewables.
