ISHWARDI, Pabna, November 7, 2026: More than 50 university students, young professionals and recent graduates joined Bangladesh’s first National Youth Nuclear Dialogue in Ishwardi, Pabna, on Saturday, focusing on nuclear energy prospects, employment opportunities and skills development.
The event, titled “Bangladesh National Youth Nuclear Dialogue: Impact Team 2050,” was organized by Russia’s Rosatom State Corporation and the International Youth Advisory Council–Impact Team 2050, with support from Rosatom, at the Nuclear Information Centre in Ishwardi.
The discussions focused on expanding youth participation in Bangladesh’s nuclear sector, developing a skilled workforce and improving public understanding of nuclear technology. Hasan Mohammad Shoaib, Ishwardi Upazila Nirbahi Officer, and Olga Vishnevskaya, Deputy Project Director for Human Resources of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant construction project, attended as distinguished guests.
Promod Chandra Baidya, a young expert at NPCNL and a member of Rosatom Director General’s Impact Team 2050, said Bangladeshi youth were enthusiastic about nuclear energy and ready to contribute to its safe and reliable use.
Participants identified limited access to specialized education, practical training, research facilities and internships as major challenges. They also stressed the need for reliable public information to address concerns about radiation, nuclear safety, radioactive waste management and environmental impacts.
Recommendations included specialized university courses, scholarships, research grants, internships and career counselling involving industry experts. Participants also proposed stronger cooperation among the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission, Rooppur project authorities and universities.
Youth-led initiatives such as national nuclear innovation challenges, fellowships, open days, hackathons, research competitions and university-based nuclear ambassador programmes were also suggested.
The organizers said the recommendations would be presented to Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev and highlighted at COP31, scheduled for November 9–20 in Antalya, Türkiye.
The initiative aims to encourage greater youth engagement in the peaceful use of nuclear technology and the development of Bangladesh’s nuclear energy sector.
