Dhaka, October 3, 2026: Mustafa Kamal Majumder has been elected president of the Online News Portal Owners Association Bangladesh (ONAB), an organization representing online media owners registered with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. Syed Nurul Huda Rono has been elected general secretary.
The new full-fledged executive committee was announced at ONAB’s biennial general meeting held at the National Press Club on Saturday morning. The previous ad hoc committee was dissolved at the meeting.
Other office-bearers of the new committee are Alimuzzaman Harun, senior vice-president; Latiful Bari Hamim, vice-president; Ashraful Kabir Ashif, senior joint secretary; Sakhawat Hossain Sojib, joint secretary; and Ayon Ahmed, treasurer.
The executive members are Shaheen Chowdhury, Towhidul Islam Mintu, Delwar Hossain, Rafiqul Basar, Mahbuba Islam Kakoli and Syed Arifuzzaman.
The general meeting began with ONAB Convener Mustafa Kamal Majumder in the chair and Member Secretary Shaheen Chowdhury conducting the proceedings. At the outset, members observed a one-minute silence in memory of Toufik Imroz Khalidi, editor of bdnews24.com and a member of ONAB, who recently passed away.
During the meeting, members placed a number of proposals aimed at making ONAB’s organisational activities more effective and dynamic. Registered online media owners strongly called for scrapping the existing requirement for annual renewal of online news portal registration and for bringing registered online media outlets under the government advertising system.
The meeting also decided to seek immediate meetings with the Minister, State Minister, Adviser and Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to press for implementation of these demands.
Shaheen Chowdhury, Syed Nurul Huda Rono, Shahinur Islam Chowdhury, Mohsin Hossain, Ayon Ahmed, Mostakim Sarker, Delwar Hossain and Syed Arifuzzaman spoke on various organizational and contemporary issues.
The meeting concluded with newly elected President Mustafa Kamal Majumder stressing the importance of maintaining objectivity in online journalism and outlining the organization’s responsibilities and future priorities.
