Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL) has signed a BDT 500 crore loan agreement with the Finance Division of the Ministry of Finance to expand access to affordable financing for rooftop solar installations across Bangladesh.

Under the program, IDCOL and the Bangladesh Infrastructure Finance Fund Limited (BIFFL) will jointly provide BDT 1,000 crore in financing sourced from the Finance Division to accelerate rooftop solar adoption.

Through its demand aggregators (DAs), IDCOL will offer loans at an interest rate of up to 6 percent to households, businesses, industries and small enterprises seeking to install rooftop solar systems.

The initiative aims to increase the share of renewable energy in Bangladesh’s power mix by making solar investments more affordable and accessible to a wider range of consumers.

The government has adopted the Renewable Energy Development Strategy Paper 2026–2030, which targets the addition of 10,500 MW of renewable energy capacity by 2030. Rooftop solar is expected to account for 5,500 MW of the targeted capacity.

The financing facility is expected to support the government’s renewable energy ambitions by encouraging greater private-sector participation and expanding the use of rooftop solar across residential, commercial and industrial sectors
