Installation of automated process control systems (APCS) has been completed at Units 1 and 2 of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (NPP). In addition, Rooppur is the first Rosatom project to implement the Operator Information Support System (OISS).

Supplied by Rosatom Automated Control Systems (RASU), the systems comprise approximately 20,000 pieces of equipment across 43 systems. They will monitor more than 7,000 process parameters, including reactor stability, supporting safe and efficient plant operation.

Another key component -Operator Information Support System (OISS), developed by RASU using a digital twin of the power unit has already been integrated at Unit 1 and is participating in start-up operations. A similar system will also be installed at Unit 2.

The OISS analyses data from 360 process systems, identifies deviations, and provides operators with recommendations based on more than 80 instructions, including emergency response procedures. By consolidating complex operational data into an accessible format, it helps operators make informed decisions and respond more effectively.

“The Rooppur NPP is not only the largest project of cooperation between the Russian Federation and Bangladesh, but also our flagship in the use of modern automation and control technologies. This is Rosatom’s first foreign plant to implement the Operator Information Support System,” said Alexey Likhachev, Director General of Rosatom. He added that the system would improve response times, reduce operating costs, and provide control room personnel with a reliable assistant.

The plant, featuring two Generation III+ WWER-1200 reactors, is being constructed by Atomstroyexport, Rosatom’s engineering division.
