SANGSAD BHABAN, Feb 14, 2018 (BSS) – State Minister for power, energy and mineral resources minister Nasrul Hamid today said the big challenge for the power sector is investment and US$ 21 billion have already been invested in the power sector.

 

The government under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has already designed a plan for increasing foreign investment and it would help implement the mega project in the power sector, said the state minister who is also a lawmaker from Dhaka-5.

 

“Bangladesh will be a developed country ranking 34 in the world before the period of 2041 under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,” said the state minister while taking part in the general discussion on thanks giving motion for delivering the address by the President in the first session of 2018.

 

The existing development activities should be continued for establishing a prosperous and poverty free Bangladesh, said the state minister.

 

Congratulating the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, opposition bench member Fakhrul Imam of Mymensingh-8 said “Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is the only leader who made the country a role model of development.” He called politicians for restraining themselves from misusing power saying none can stay in power for all time.

 

He, however criticised the authorities for not taking stern actions against question paper leak, plundering of the banking sector by a very few powerful persons.

 

Treasury bench member Mahbub-Ul Alam Hanif said the government has launched metro rail with spending of Taka 21,595 crore which would help to eliminate the traffic gridlock in the city.

 

Regarding the imprisonment of Begum Zia, Hanif who also a Joint General Secretary of the ruling Awami League said the money embezzlement case of Zia Orphanage Trust filed against Begum Zia during the regime of the non-party caretaker government in 2008, adding that the ruling Awami League had no connection with this case and the verdict came after long 10 years maintaining all the legal procedure.

 

The lawmakers also thanked the President for giving a timely speech highlighting the success stories of the government and guiding the nation towards peace, progress and prosperity.

 

Earlier, they paid a rich tribute to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for his contribution to establishing an independent Bangladesh.

 

Treasury bench member Nahid Razzaque of Shariatpur-3, BM Mozammel Haq of Shariatpur-1, Nurul Islam Sujon of Panchagarh-2, Mohammad Golam Rabbani of Chapai Nawabganj-1, Nazimuddin Ahmed of Mymensingh-3 and Shawpan Bhattachariya ofJessore-5, also spoke on the occasion.
