3rd July 2025

Muara Enim, 3 July 2025 (PR) – PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk (PGE) (IDX: PGEO) has successfully achieved a key milestone in the operationalization of the Lumut Balai Unit 2 Geothermal Power Plant, with a capacity of 55 megawatts (MW). Following the successful of a 72-hour continuous Unit Rated Capacity (URC) test and the issuance of the Commissioning Certificate (Sertifikat Laik Operasi/SLO) on 29 June 2025, the plant is now fully operational and supplying electricity to the national grid. With this achievement, PGE now manages a total installed capacity of 727.5 MW across six operational areas.

Conducted between June 26-29, the URC test demonstrated stable performance and full compliance with technical specifications. With the signing of the URC report and the issuance of the Commissioning Certificate, the integration and synchronization of the project with the national electricity grid are expected to proceed smoothly. This achievement is set to contribute positively to the national energy mix through renewable energy sources, particularly geothermal. Moreover, this phase marks a significant milestone in asset monetization through electricity sales from PGE to PLN.

President Director of PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk Julfi Hadi stated that this achievement is the result of the collective efforts of the PGE team in the field and the support of various stakeholders. “We are grateful that the power generation at Lumut Balai Unit 2 can now operate consistently and at full capacity. This is part of PGE’s long-term commitment to providing reliable and sustainable clean energy through geothermal power. With this additional capacity, we are not only strengthening the national energy mix but also moving closer to our goal of reaching 1 gigawatt (GW) of independently-managed installed capacity within the next 2-3 years,” he said.

Julfi also emphasized that this step reflects PGE’s concrete contribution toward achieving the national target of expanding renewable energy generation capacity by up to 76% in the 2025–2034 period.

“Looking ahead, we are optimistic about continuing to support the acceleration of the national geothermal capacity expansion target of 5.2 GW during that period,” he added.

In addition to Lumut Balai Unit 2, PGE is currently developing several other strategic projects, including the Hululais Geothermal Power Plant Units 1 & 2 (110 MW), as well as a number of  co-generation projects with a combined capacity of 230 MW. Most recently, on 26 June, PGE inaugurated the exploration phase (green field) of the Gunung Tiga geothermal power plant in Lampung, which holds a potential capacity of 55 MW.
