Dhaka, July 3, 2025 (PR) - Asian University for Women (AUW) inaugurated its Math and Science Summer School 2025, funded by Chevron, in a vibrant ceremony held at its rooftop campus on M.M. Ali Road, Chattogram recently. This year’s program brings together 101 talented college girls from across Bangladesh for a month-long fun-based practical learning experience focused on STEM education.

 

Since its launch in 2019, the Chevron sponsored AUW Math and Science Summer School has played a pivotal role in inspiring young women to pursue higher education and careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). This year’s cohort will engage in courses on Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Computer Programming, and Public Health, taught by both local and international faculty members with strong academic backgrounds.

 

 

The inauguration ceremony was graced by the Chief Guest, Dr. Nurun Nahar Chowdhury, ndc, Additional Secretary, Energy and Mineral Resources Division (EMRD), Government of Bangladesh. In her address, she emphasized the vital importance of STEM education in driving national progress and empowering young women across the country.

 

The event began with a national anthem presentation by AUW’s international student choir, followed by a formal introduction of distinguished guests. Dr. Rubana Huq, Honorable Vice Chancellor of AUW, delivered a welcome speech underscoring the university’s mission to educate and empower women across Asia. Dr. Mohiuddin Ahsanul Kabir Chowdhury, Director of the Summer School, officially opened the event and introduced the faculty and teaching team.

 

Notable representatives from Chevron Bangladesh—Mr. Zahir Uddin Mohammed Babur Khan, Deputy Director, Corporate Affairs, and Mr. A K M Arif Akter, Head of Community Engagement & Sustainability, expressed their continued support for AUW’s Math and Science Summer School initiatives and reaffirmed their commitment to empowering young women in STEM fields.

 

Other esteemed speakers included Dr. Munal Mahbub, Senior Vice President, Chittagong Women Chamber of Commerce & Industry; and Dr. Fatima Mary Sidotam, Dean of Students at AUW.

 

The ceremony also featured speeches from college principals and honorable teachers, Mr. Tanuj Roy, Principal of Dinarpur College; Mr. A.S. Md Kamrul Haque Jewel, an assistant teacher from Scholarshome; and Mr. Jalal Uddin Rumi, Vice Principal of Creative College. Two alumnae, Nusrat Jahan Yamim (Summer School 2019) and Shah Jafrin Sultana (Summer School 2024), shared heartfelt reflections on how the program shaped their academic and personal journeys.

Through their generous support and shared vision for inclusive growth, Chevron continues to champion the cause of women’s education and leadership in STEM.
