Dhaka, September 14, 2026: Industries will receive gas and electricity supplies at levels prevailing before the recent crisis, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has assured business leaders, according to Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) Administrator Md Fazlul Haque.
He said the situation would begin improving from Tuesday night.
“The Prime Minister said that, InshaAllah, from tomorrow night we will be able to return to the gas and electricity supply situation that existed before the latest crisis,” Haque told reporters after a meeting with the Prime Minister.
“This is, in our view, the biggest achievement and the greatest relief from today’s meeting,” he added.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman held a three-hour meeting with representatives of 21 business organizations at the Secretariat on Monday, where the assurance was reportedly given.
Asked what was meant by returning to the previous situation, Haque said it referred to the supply conditions before the gas crisis intensified in August.
Gas pressure has remained low for several weeks in Dhaka, Gazipur, Narayanganj and other industrial areas, severely disrupting factory operations and causing hardship for households, restaurants and other businesses.
Many households and restaurants have been forced to use alternative fuels, increasing costs and inconvenience. CNG filling stations have also witnessed long queues as vehicles wait for limited gas supplies.
Earlier, the Prime Minister’s Economic and Planning Adviser Rasheed Al Mahmud Titumir had said gas supplies would return to normal within a few days through government initiatives and imports from alternative sources.
BNP Acting Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi had also said the government expected to resolve the crisis within one to one-and-a-half weeks.
