Dhaka, September 10, 2026: Norwegian Ambassador to Bangladesh Hakon Arald Gulbrandsen met Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hassan Mahmood at his office at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Thursday to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation in the energy sector. 

The meeting focused on renewable energy, offshore exploration, green investment and Norway’s potential role in Bangladesh’s clean energy transition. The minister sought Norwegian technical and financial support for power-sector auditing to improve transparency, accurately assess electricity demand, increase efficiency and reduce system losses.

 

The two sides also discussed Norwegian participation in Bangladesh’s offshore bidding round, investment in renewable and solar power, and expanding technology transfer, technical training and financial cooperation in line with Bangladesh’s renewable energy roadmap.

 

The minister thanked Norway for its longstanding partnership with Bangladesh and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to creating a favourable environment for Norwegian investment in the power and energy sectors. He welcomed greater participation by Nordic countries in helping Bangladesh achieve its renewable energy targets and strengthen energy security.

 

Ambassador Gulbrandsen expressed Norway’s interest in further expanding trade, investment and technical cooperation with Bangladesh, particularly in offshore renewable energy and green technologies.

 

Energy and Mineral Resources Division Secretary Md Ziaul Haque and senior officials of the Power Division were also present at the meeting.
