Dhaka, September 2, 2026: The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has reduced the price of a 12-kilogram liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinder by Tk 13 to Tk 1,585 for September.
BERC announced the revised LPG prices on Wednesday afternoon, with the new rates taking effect from 6pm.
The commission also reduced the price of autogas used in vehicles from Tk 73.67 to Tk 73.09 per liter.
The latest reduction follows a modest decline in July, after LPG prices had risen for several consecutive months. The price increased sharply earlier this year, with the 12kg cylinder reaching Tk 1,940 in April after two successive hikes totaling Tk 599. The price was later reduced to Tk 1,885 in June before rising again in August.
The LPG market has faced considerable volatility and supply concerns since late 2025, with reports of cylinders being sold well above the official rates. In March, when the official price was Tk 1,341, market prices reportedly ranged between Tk 1,800 and Tk 2,000.
To address supply concerns, importers have received a number of policy concessions, including increased import limits, reduced taxes and access to credit facilities for opening letters of credit. Freight charges were also increased from $108 to $250 per tonne. Despite these measures, market stability and effective enforcement of official prices have remained challenges.
BERC began announcing LPG prices monthly in April 2021, based on Saudi Aramco’s benchmark prices, along with adjustments for import-related costs, freight charges and commissions for importers, dealers and retailers.
