Dhaka, Aug 2, 2026: The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has increased the retail price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for August, raising the price of the widely used 12kg cylinder by Tk 70 following a sharp reduction in July.
Under the new pricing, consumers will have to pay Tk 1,598 for a 12kg LPG cylinder, up from Tk 1,528. The revised prices came into effect from 6:00 pm on Sunday, according to a BERC notification.
BERC fixed the retail price of privately marketed LPG at Tk 133.15 per kilogram, including VAT, compared with Tk 127.30 per kilogram in July, reflecting an increase of Tk 5.85 per kg.
The commission also revised prices for other cylinder sizes. A 5.5kg cylinder will now cost Tk 732, while prices have been set at Tk 1,664 for 12.5kg, Tk 1,997 for 15kg, Tk 2,130 for 16kg, Tk 2,397 for 18kg, Tk 2,663 for 20kg, Tk 2,929 for 22kg, Tk 3,329 for 25kg, Tk 3,995 for 30kg, Tk 4,394 for 33kg, Tk 4,660 for 35kg and Tk 5,992 for a 45kg cylinder.
The price of autogas used in vehicles has also been increased by Tk 3.27 per liter, from Tk 70.40 to Tk 73.67 per liter.
According to BERC, the latest adjustment reflects the increase in the Saudi Aramco Contract Price (Saudi CP), the international benchmark used to determine LPG prices. For August, Saudi CP has been set at US$620 per tonne for propane and US$640 per tonne for butane, resulting in a weighted average of US$633 per tonne based on a 35:65 propane-butane mix.
The average Saudi CP in July was US$593 per tonne, meaning the benchmark increased by US$40 per tonne for August.
BERC said the revised price also considers an LPG import shipping and traders’ premium of US$180 per tonne and an average exchange rate of Tk 123.69 per US dollar.
For bulk consumers, the price of privately supplied LPG under the reticulated system has been fixed at Tk 129.40 per kilogram, including VAT. LPG supplied in gaseous form has been priced at Tk 0.2875 per liter, or Tk 287.50 per cubic meter.
The price of government-supplied LPG remains unchanged, with a 12.5kg cylinder continuing to sell at Tk 776.93.
Last month, BERC reduced the price of a 12kg LPG cylinder by Tk 357 to Tk 1,528, while the autogas price was lowered to Tk 70.40 per liter. The latest revision partially offsets that reduction amid rising international LPG benchmark prices.
The energy regulator also reiterated that LPG bottling companies, distributors and retailers are not permitted to sell bottled LPG, reticulated LPG or autogas above the prices fixed by the commission at any stage of the supply chain.
