The reactor pressure vessel (RPV) has been successfully installed at Unit 2 of Egypt's El-Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant (NPP), marking another major milestone in the construction of the country's first nuclear power plant. Installation of the reactor pressure vessel also marks the beginning of the countdown toward the unit's physical start-up and the future loading of nuclear fuel.
The installation ceremony was attended by Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev, Egyptian Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Dr. Mahmoud Esmat. At the same time, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, delivered opening remarks.

Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly said the project strengthens the strategic partnership between Egypt and Russia and supports the country's Vision 2030, describing El-Dabaa as a cornerstone of Egypt's long-term development under the theme, "Energy That Builds the Future."
Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev highlighted the rapid progress of construction, noting that the reactor pressure vessel at Unit 1 was installed just seven months ago.
Weighing more than 340 tonnes, the reactor pressure vessel was positioned inside the reactor shaft using a 1,350-tonne crawler crane with an installation accuracy of one-tenth of a millimeter. The next major milestone at Unit 2 will be the welding of the Main Coolant Pipeline.
Egypt’s maiden nuclear power plant is being built by Rosatom's Engineering Division, which serves as the general designer and contractor.
