DHAKA, July 30, 2026 — The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has reduced the retail price of furnace oil by Tk 8.71 per liter, bringing the price down from Tk 109.10 to Tk 100.39 per liter, in line with international market trends.
According to a BERC notification issued on Thursday, the revised price will come into effect from 12:00 am on Friday.
Furnace oil is one of the primary fuels used for electricity generation in Bangladesh, with around 2 million tonnes consumed annually by power plants.
The latest adjustment follows a previous price cut on June 30, when BERC reduced the furnace oil price from Tk 113.54 to Tk 109.10 per liter. Prior to that, the fuel price had increased by Tk 24.59 per litre in the preceding month due to higher international oil prices.
Following the formation of the interim government, authority to determine the prices of furnace oil and Jet A-1 aviation fuel was transferred to BERC through a government notification issued on September 15.
After holding a public hearing in January, BERC announced its first furnace oil price under the new mechanism on February 22. Since then, the commission has been revising prices on a monthly basis to reflect movements in the global petroleum market.
The latest reduction is expected to lower fuel costs for oil-fired power plants and provide some relief to the country’s power generation sector.
