Dhaka/Bonn, 16 June 2026 - A coordination meeting of the Bangladesh delegation was held today at the UNFCCC headquarters in Bonn, Germany, focusing on Bangladesh’s participation in the ongoing SBs64 (Subsidiary Bodies 64) climate negotiations and preparations for the upcoming COP31 conference in Antalya, Türkiye.

 

Review of SBs64 Participation and Negotiation Positions

The meeting reviewed Bangladesh’s engagement in various negotiation streams under SBs64, including key interventions, progress achieved so far, and the country’s positions on priority agenda items.

 

Discussions also covered Bangladesh’s strategic approach in ongoing climate negotiations, with emphasis on ensuring effective representation of national interests in multilateral climate processes.

 

Focus on COP31 Priorities and Strategy

Special attention was given to preparations for COP31, including Bangladesh’s priority issues, negotiation strategy, and coordination framework.

 

Participants highlighted the importance of strengthening Bangladesh’s position on climate finance, adaptation, loss and damage, technology transfer, and capacity building, alongside safeguarding the interests of climate-vulnerable countries in global negotiations.

 

The meeting stressed the need for closer coordination with international partners to ensure stronger advocacy on these issues at COP31.

 

Call for Stronger Coordination and Unified Representation

Special Assistant to the Hon’ble Prime Minister on Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Dr Syed Saimeum Parvez, emphasized enhanced coordination among delegation members to ensure Bangladesh’s priorities are effectively communicated in international forums.

 

He called for active participation and a unified approach to strengthen Bangladesh’s negotiating impact in global climate discussions.

 

Bangladesh’s Commitment to Climate Diplomacy

The delegation reaffirmed Bangladesh’s commitment to playing a constructive and responsible role in global climate negotiations.

 

Officials reiterated that Bangladesh will continue working to strengthen international cooperation and ensure fair recognition of the needs and rights of climate-vulnerable and developing countries in addressing the impacts of climate change.
